Choroidal neovascular membranes treated with photodynamic therapy.

چکیده
copy, Vesaluoma et al found loss of keratocytes in the anterior layers of the flap 6 months postoperatively that persisted for up to 2 years. Whether this is the result of apoptosis of keratocytes, lack of communication with lost sensory stromal nerves, or something else has not been determined. Mitooka et al, using confocal microscopy, confirmed this finding and also found fewer keratocytes in the area beneath the flap. Although the Bodian stain showed a paucity of nerve fibers in the flap, 2 cases of corneal blood staining from our laboratory that had not undergone LASIK also had few corneal nerves crossing the Bowman layer, so conclusions about corneal nerve degeneration after LASIK cannot be established from this case. The vivid staining of the hemoglobin particles with the Masson trichrome stain compared with their almost complete lack of visibility with hematoxylin-eosin was remarkable and demonstrates another histologic method to evaluate corneal blood staining. Another interesting feature in this case was the apparent barrier to blood staining at the interface of the LASIK flap with the underlying corneal stroma.

Consequences of verteporfin photodynamic therapy on choroidal neovascular membranes.
OBJECTIVE To examine the impact of photodynamic therapy (PDT) on angiogenesis in human choroidal neovascular membranes with respect to vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) expression, proliferation, and vascularization. METHODS Retrospective review of an interventional case series of 50 patients (50 eyes) who underwent removal of choroidal neovascular membranes. Choroidal neovascularizat...

muscle cells. The presence of osteoclasts in our case is novel. The reason for the development of subretinal neovascular membranes in eyes with choroidal osteoma is unknown. One hypothesis is that the thinned, degenerated RPE overlying the osteoma allows the growth of new blood vessels. Our observation that osteoclasts are present in the neovascular membrane raises the possibility that neovascu...
متن کاملSimultaneous Single Dexamethasone Implant and Ranibizumab Injection in a Case with Active Serpiginous Choroiditis and Choroidal Neovascular Membrane
Intravitreal anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) agents seem to be effective in choroidal neovascular membranes (CNV) in association with various entities of posterior uveitis. We herein report a 46-year-old woman who was treated with a simultaneous single intravitreal dexamethasone implant and ranibizumab administration for the treatment of unilateral extrafoveal CNV associated with...

PURPOSE Evaluation of a large series of choroidal nevi inducing the formation of a neovascular membrane in order to more clearly define the clinical presentation and to evaluate the efficacy of various treatment options. METHOD Retrospective study of 22 clinical cases. RESULTS All nevi were situated in the posterior choroid. They had a mean diameter of 3.8 mm and a mean thickness of 1.4 mm....
متن کاملRecurrence of a choroidal neovascular membrane in a patient with punctate inner choroidopathy treated with daily doses of thalidomide.
PURPOSE To determine whether thalidomide therapy can prevent a recurrence of a choroidal neovascular membrane in a patient with punctate inner choroidopathy. METHODS Case report. In a 38-year-old woman with bilateral punctate inner choroidopathy, thalidomide therapy was initiated three days after laser photocoagulation of a choroidal neovascular membrane. RESULTS The patient had a recurrenc...
متن کاملToxoplasmosis-associated neovascular lesions treated successfully with ranibizumab and antiparasitic therapy.
Choroidal neovascular membranes (CNVMs) rarely complicate toxoplasmic chorioretinitis and are managed by observation; antiparasitic, anti-inflammatory medication; laser photocoagulation; surgical excision; or photodynamic therapy, with variable outcomes. As occurs with CNVMs secondary to age-related macular degeneration, Toxoplasma gondii increases expression of hypoxia-inducible factor–1 in ti...
